We need student volunteers to help make CASCA-AAA 2019 a success.
This BIG academic conference is an opportunity to listen to papers covering all kinds of anthropological research, rub shoulders with famous and not-so-famous anthropologists, and attend poster and multi-media installations. There will be a “speed dating” type event where you can meet people who work in non-academic jobs and learn about how you might get that kind of work. And especially for undergraduates, there will be a graduate school fair on the Saturday.
We are asking students to volunteer for up to two 4-hour shifts (or more, if you wish). Tasks include directing attendees to the places they need to go, checking them into the conference, carrying messages, and welcoming people into special events. A list of volunteer roles can be found here.
In order to be a volunteer, you must first register for the conference. Students who complete 8 hours of volunteer work will have their full conference registration fee reimbursed. For 4 hours of volunteer work, you will get half of your conference registration reimbursed.
Step 1: Join CASCA – go to this site to complete the membership form to join as an undergraduate student ($25) or graduate student ($45), and register for the conference at the discounted rate for undergraduate students ($80) or graduate students ($140). If you run into any problems with this step, contact Karli Whitmore (CASCA manager) at email@example.com.
Step 2: Go to the Student Volunteer Page and review the information prior to submitting your application, in which you will select your availabilities. Before or while applying, email a copy of your student ID card to Nell, AAA Accessibility & Meetings Coordinator, at firstname.lastname@example.org. If you run into a problem with this step, contact Nell. The deadline to apply to volunteer is Tuesday, October 1, 2019.
Step 3: By October 15, Nell will contact you with next steps that will allow you to select preferred volunteer roles and times.
Step 4: By November 6, Nell will confirm your volunteer roles, times, and schedule.
